One Direction – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Payne – rose to fame after being put together on the 2010 series of the X Factor, and went on to become one of the most successful bands in the world.

Malik, 26, was first to leave the group, signing a solo contract, before the remaining members went on hiatus in 2016.

All five have had varying levels of success as solo artists, and Payne’s album, LP1, was released on Friday.

But the question of a potential reunion always comes up.

On Channel 4 show Sunday Brunch, Payne spoke about the chances of it happening.

“I think at some point we will get back together,” he said. “I think we will, for sure.

“I don’t know when that is yet but, all I know is there is at least two years while everyone’s just released new music where you have to go and promo and do all of that.

“There are at least two years.”

Payne said he speaks to Tomlinson “quite a lot” and that he saw Styles recently when he watched him perform at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball.

“I actually saw him for the first time in three years yesterday,” he said. We hadn’t seen each other in a long, long time.

“It was really nice, he’s still the same boy as when I left him, really sweet… he’s such a lovely lad.”

Payne added: “I think people have a misconception that we were all just massive mates, that’s just not the case.”

But he added: “There’s no bad blood between anyone.”
