Indie-Lincs film festival returns for eighth year

Indie-Lincs International Film Festival will return in 2024 with more than 40 original, independent films.

Lincoln Arts Centre is to host the event, which runs from 15-17 February.

This festival showcases low and micro-budget films made by international filmmakers.

It will kick off on Friday the 15th with a screening of the Bafta-nominated How to Have Sex, external.

Described as a powerful coming-of-age drama about sexual consent, How to Have Sex was the UK’s only entry to last year’s Cannes Festival, where it won the 2023 Un Certain Regard Award.

Entries include documentaries, dramas and animations, both short and feature length.

Senior media lecturer Dr Mikey Murray said: “Our festival is for the community. We pride ourselves on our welcoming atmosphere.

“It’s a great place to see films you wouldn’t ordinarily get a chance to and meet others to discuss what you’ve watched. There is great camaraderie.”

He said that a new judging panel had been introduced at this year’s festival and that attendees can also vote for their favourite film.

The programme of guest speakers will include directors and other industry professionals.

Alex Hannam, an MA film production student who is the festival’s volunteer coordinator, said: “I got involved with Indie-Lincs Film Festival… to [watch] and curate some of the most challenging short films in one brilliant weekend.

“There’s never a dull moment. There’s always someone to help you enjoy the events or talk about film.”
